FireBrand RC Facelift For The Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0
Have you seen our review of the body-less Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0? In case you have not, we tested the Traxxas with stock wheels & tires, plus we popped on a Traxxas Ford GT body. However, the real beauty of that car is that it doesn’t come with a body, thus saving you the cash to buy the exact body style that you want.
Recently, we decided to give our 4-Tec 2.0 review car a face-lift, and a BIG one at that. In order to transform our Traxxas into a custom machine, we called up FireBrand RC and ordered up new wheels, tires, along with a new body. All three items were selected for their “high street-cred” looks and performance. Also, because we intend on doing a lot of drifting with the Traxxas, we went with hard, drift style tires.
For a body we went with the FireBrand Zero Chill. The Zero Chill brings back memories of cruising in a 5.0 on a hot summer’s night, only with more attitude. The body is a two piece design for greater realism, and it comes ready for you to bolt in a light kit, if you so desire. We used Duratrax white and black paint to put on a Marshmello themed paint scheme, perfect for a laid back drifter.
Trimming the body was easily taken care of by FireBrand body Sizzorz. These have a slight bend to them for making short work of corners and were plenty sharp to cut clean lines. To line the body up to perfection before we drilled the mounting holes, we used the Dynamite EZ Body Post Marker Set. By using the body post marker we saved time and didn’t have to worry about the body holes coming out in the wrong places. As far as the actual body mounts are concerned, we used some of the extras that came along with the 4-Tec 2.0. Traxxas hooks you up with multiple body mounts, it took all of about 5 minutes to install the new body mounts and set them to the correct height for the look we were after.
On the wheel and tire side of things, we used a pre-mounted Darkmatter XDR drift set. These came pre-mounted with hard Diamond tires that were double beveled at 45°and 5°. The Diamond tires were softer than something like pure ABS and we found them to be quite awesome when out drifting around a freshly paved parking lot.
Painting and trimming the body took us about 3 hours. Mounting up the wheels was as easy as removing 4 nuts and reattaching them. Our total install time was just over 3 hours, but boy did our 4-Tec 2.0 look like a completely different car afterwards! Our car came stock with a VXL brushless system, so we’ve been having a blast doing high speed drifting outside. The Zero Chill body certainly gives our 4-Tec 2.0 loads of personality, while the FireBrand drift tires are dialed for the type of pavement we’ve been driving on. If you haven’t started modding out your 4-Tec 2.0 yet, you really should, it is much easier to do than you might think.
