For Bashers, By Bashers!

Bashers Basics — Tires.

Hello and welcome back to Bashers Basics! If you have already read the first post, you will know what you are trying to pursue, for those who didn’t, I’ll make it clear, traction. Grip. What converts the rotation of your motor into lateral speed. If you have seen any of the cool slow-motion bashing videos littered around YouTube, you have likely seen a close up of a tire, with the RC going from 0% to 100% throttle, and leaving an awesome rooster tail behind. Like many things in life this goes into the “While it looks cool on the big screen it’s horribly impractical in real life.” paradox. The majority of the traction (or lack thereof) that your truck produces will be procured using its tires. So it would only be logical to use the tires that get the most grip on your race track or bash field.

There are 5 main genres of tires to choose from, with almost every tire manufacturer having a finger in each.

These genres are:
– Large knobbly aggressive tread off-road style.
– Fine tread off-road style.
– Aggressive tread on-road style.
– Fine tread foam on-road style.
– High wall scale tread extra sticky off-road style.

With so many to choose from, which one is best for you? That is what I am going to help you figure out!

Tire Options

Firstly, and most importantly, you need to know what type of surface that you are running on, if it is a clean on road circuit, you would likely choose the fourth option, the foam on road styled tires. Alternatively if you were running your car just on your local cul-de-sac where there may be some pebbles and dirt, you would more likely lean towards tire style #3, like the PROLINE STREET FIGHTERS.

Off-road style tires have a few more options, but if you are running in soft, loamy dirt, sand, or gravel, a larger-tread style tire (tire #1) is recommended, like the PROLINE BAD LANDS. The second tire option is geared more towards off-road track racing, and there are many sub genres of tire within this style, but it is wise too see what other racers with more experience are running, so that you don’t have to re-buy upgrades, because that is just the worst!

The fifth tire option is mainly for scalers, but a great high walled tire for high speed cars are the PROLINE TSL SUPER SWAMPERS, which provide both insane amounts of grip, and scale appearance. However, you must keep in mind, the higher the tire wall, the more prone they are to becoming pizza cutters at high speed!

The most crucial part of picking the right tires is identifying the surface on which you will be driving on. After you know the general genre of tires that you are looking for, it is a lot of guess work, asking other enthusiasts, and browsing the local forums for advise from other locals in the area, and they will point you in the right direction. In the end, it will take time to find the perfect tire, but the closer you get, the faster you will go!
